Housing Commissioner Towns pleads guilty in DWI case, has license revoked

State Homes and Community Renewal Commissioner Darryl Towns will have
to pay a $900 fine and will not be able to drive for six months
following an arrest for drunk driving over the July 4 weekend, the
New York Daily News reported. He will have to complete two
alcohol-abuse treatment program after he pleaded guilty this morning
to a misdemeanor drunk driving charge in Mount Vernon City Court.

With his license revoked, Towns avoids having to install a
breathalzyer-type interlock device in his car. He can reapply for his
license in six months.

He was arrested for driving under the influence after he crashed his
car in Westchester County. In February Governor Andrew Cuomo had selected the former assembly member from Brooklyn to head
the state Homes and Community Renewal Department.
