Shipping container Hamptons home built in less than a day

A new “beach box” home made out of steel boxes has been erected in Amagansett, the New York Post reported, located among the mansions of celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow and Paul McCartney. The 2,000-square-foot, four-bedroom, environmentally friendly home, by developer Andrew Anderson, is made out of old shipping containers and was built in less than a day.

“People left their home in East Hampton to go to work in Montauk and came home to see that a house had been built,” said broker Christopher Stewart of Prudential Douglas Elliman in the Hamptons.

The home, which is asking just shy of $1.5 million, places an emphasis on green design, with all construction materials being recycled. The large glass panes make the home easier to heat on cool days, the Post said. The homes have had great success on the West Coast.

“Our goal is to be eco-friendly and to maintain a small carbon footprint,” Anderson added.

If the home is received well and finds a buyer, he will build six more in the Hamptons, he said. [Post]
