Azerbaijan to build world’s tallest building

The tallest skyscraper in the world, a title traded every couple years, won’t be in Asia or Dubai, Curbed reported. Now, the tallest tower on our planet will rise in a small country that just 20 years ago was one of the less noted Soviet Socialist Republics: Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan Tower, which is set to break ground in 2015, will rise one kilometer, or 3,280 feet, upon its completion in 2018 or 2019, Curbed said.

The tower will cost approximately $2 billion to build and will rise above the Khazar Islands, a series of man-made islands currently under construction in the Caspian Sea.

Currently, the world’s tallest skyscraper is the Burj Khalifa, in Dubai. [Curbed]
