Gehry to become renter at 8 Spruce Street

Penthouses at the rental tower hit the market in six to eight weeks

New York by Gehry, currently the tallest residential building in the Western Hemisphere, is premiering three penthouses in the next six to eight weeks, the Wall Street Journal reported.

And those residents — who will be paying between $40,000 and $60,000 per month, as The Real Deal has previously reported — will have a celebrity neighbor: Frank Gehry himself, according to the Journal.

The demographic at New York by Gehry, at 8 Spruce Street, at Nassau Street, is the kind of renter who can afford to buy but chooses not to, the Journal said. Above the 52nd floor at the tower, 50 percent of tenants earn more than $500,000 a year and 20 percent more than $1 million, Clifford Finn, president of new-development marketing at Citi Habitats, the building’s marketer, told the Journal.

It is not known what rent Gehry is paying. [WSJ]
