Williamsburg’s Edge gets three new retailers

Now that most of the residential units in the Edge have filled up, the retail portion of the massive Williamsburg waterfront condominium is seeing some life, too.

The Wall Street Journal reported that a 15,000-square-foot grocery store called Brooklyn Harvest Market, a contemporary Italian restaurant, espresso bar and bakery called named Fabbrica and a new bike shop called Ride Brooklyn are all set to move in to the building’s retail spaces.

The new retailers will join a CVS and Frolic!, a child entertainment center that The Real Deal reported to have signed a lease in September at the Edge.

“Williamsburg is not happening, but it’s happened,” said Douglaston Development President Jeffrey Levine, the developer behind the project. “Retail does not like to invest in a future prospect. It’s very clear that Williamsburg has arrived.”

Meanwhile, just 58 of the building’s 565 units remain unsold, as sales prices and activity have picked up markedly in the last two years after the sales effort got off to a rocky start. [WSJ]
