Third move is no charm for Williamsburg waterfront concert series

For the third time in four years, a waterfront concert series in Brooklyn is changing locations to accommodate neighbor complaints. But according to the Brooklyn Paper, this venue change is unlikely to produce positive results. Open Space Alliance will move the concert series to an asphalt lot on Kent Avenue between North 11th and North 12th streets, just three blocks from its previous venue in the East River State Park.

Not only are residents of nearby towers upset by their continued proximity to the noisy shows and unruly patrons, but they’re also peeved by the plan for the stage to face inland and direct music in their direction. The area has become increasingly residential in recent years, making it difficult for the concert series to find a suitable home.

The Open Space Alliance said it chose the venue because it is surrounded by an industrial and commercial zone and wouldn’t disturb residents as much. Meanwhile the commercial entities in the area, such as the Brooklyn Brewery, Brooklyn Bowl and the Wythe Hotel, are all support the series and its new location. [Brooklyn Paper]
