Kazakhstan president’s brother claims his $20M Plaza pad was stolen

The president of Kazakhstan’s brother, Bolat Nazarbayev, is alleging his ex-wife and stepson conspired to steal his $20 million condominium at The Plaza in a lawsuit filed in the Manhattan Supreme Court, the New York Post reported. Nazarbayev claims that his then-wife, Maria Nazarbayeva, and stepson, Daniyar, convinced him to give them power of attorney to complete the apartment purchase in 2008. Rather than putting the home solely in Bolat’s name as instructed, the pair added Maria’s name to the property, according to court documents.

Daniyar then allegedly used his power of attorney to transfer the property from Maria to himself “for no consideration.” He also used $4 million of his stepfather’s money to buy two units at 55 Wall Street, Nazarbayev claims.

Nazarbayev is seeking to regain control of The Plaza apartment and recoup money damages for the two Wall Street apartments.

The Kazakh president’s brother divorced Nazarbayeva late last year after allegedly discovering she is “an international fugitive” that is wanted by Interpol under at least one other alias for using threats to extract funds and real estate from business partners. [Post]
