Churches, synagogues host open houses

Roughly 140 religious congregation spaces will host open houses later this month to show the benefits of their renovation funding, the Wall Street Journal reported. Sacred Sites, a non-profit organization affiliated with the New York Landmarks Conservancy, will be the focal point of the open houses for their grants made over the years.

Since its inception in 1986, the organization has granted $7.5 million in funding to 680 religious congregations around the city, 200 of which are landmarks, the Journal said. Renovations include the stained glass windows at the Free Synagogue, at 41-60 Boulevard in Flushing, as well as roof replacement and windows at Brown Memorial Baptist Church, at 484 Washington Avenue in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. [WSJ]
