Park Slope residents resist condo development that would block sunlight

Park Slope, Brooklyn residents are upset that a new four-story condominium building planned to rise near the corner of Sixth Avenue and 15th Street will limit how much sun a popular community garden next door can get, the Wall Street Journal reported. The garden, called 6/15 Green, is filled with plants that require sunlight, residents say.

Locals admit that the condo’s developer, Brooklyn-based IDS Management, has respected city law in securing the proper air rights to build the project, but they wish the city had thought about something the law does not consider: sun.

“It just comes down to the value of the space and the value of the community resources,” Chad Murray, co-president of 6/15 Green, told the Journal. “What is more valuable to the community? Another condo building or a green space?” [WSJ]
