No. 7 Subway extension hit with six-month delay

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s extension of the No. 7 Subway line to West 34th Street and 11th Avenue will be delayed by at least six months to June 2014, and the New York Post said that could be a major obstacle to the likes of Extell Development’s Gary Barnett and Related’s Stephen Ross as they launch Hudson Yards construction projects.

The MTA had targeted an opening for December of next year, and Barnett even cited that time frame last week when he unveiled plans for One Hudson Yards. Now the agency said it will have test trains running by the initial target date, but regular service won’t launch until mid-2014.

While the Post said the delayed opening date is not a sign of any setbacks at Related or Extell’s projects, and noted that it was not a result of a recent construction accident at the MTA’s site, considering the role the Far West Side subway extension plays in the developers’ plans and marketing material, it is something worth monitoring closely.
