Bronx neighborhood to consider homeless housing development

The non-profit developer Urban Pathways is working to build another residential building for the formerly homeless, DNAinfo reported, this time in the Concourse Village section of the Bronx. The proposed 80-unit structure, at 316 East 162nd Street between Morris and Park avenues, is the third recent project by the group.

Last winter, it opened a 55-unit supportive housing development in Tremont, and Urban Pathways is set to open another one in Astoria. The Queens facility has drawn criticism from community leaders who fear the residents would scare off new businesses from opening in the storefronts surrounding the development.

The latest plan, to be presented to the local community board tonight, is for housing for formerly homeless adults, including those with mental illnesses. Disabled veterans would have the first crack at apartments reserved for people with special needs, DNAinfo said. [DNAinfo]
