Developer Blesso lists Noho penthouse for $9M

Blesso Properties President Matthew Blesso has listed his 12th-floor Noho penthouse for $8.95 million, the Wall Street Journal reported. Blesso — who founded the firm behind the redevelopment of Fire Island, Brooklyn’s Third Ward, several Chelsea and Village condominium projects and most recently, a Panama City hotel — put the two-bedroom, two-bathroom loft with 2,200 square feet of outdoor space, at 684 Broadway, on the market yesterday with Bernice Leventhal of the Corcoran Group.

Blesso bought the 3,200-square-foot home, between Great Jones and East Fourth streets, in 2006 from architect Hugh Hardy for $4.325 million, and commissioned ANDarchitects to gut renovate the space and redo the roofdeck. That process endured 18 months and focused on using sustainable materials. The roofdeck now features a wildflower and herb garden, an outdoor shower, a hot tub, a video screening area and views of the East River and 1 World Trade Center.

While Blesso’s day job requires him to constantly consider others’ home needs, he said building something for his own use was challenging. He told the Journal that he’s selling the apartment because he wants to move to Brooklyn to be close to the headquarters of the Third Ward arts collective where he serves as president. [WSJ]
