A block on West 16th Street gets hot

West 16th Street is gearing up to become much more of a nighttime destination, DNAinfo reported, but don’t expect to see long lines of late-night revelers awaiting entry to new hot spots between Eighth and Ninth avenues.

The block already has the Dream Downtown and Maritime, which are both hotels. But recent additions include the new Bungalow 8, which is called No. 8. As previously reported, plans for No. 8 were announced in late April of this year. When Community Board 4 found out that Amy Sacco would be behind the operation, an agreement was reached in support of a name change for the club and that Sacco would not be involved.

The Tao Group, which is behind the Tao and Lavo restaurants, will also bring a restaurant-slash-lounge to the Maritime. As previously reported, it will occupy 22,000 square feet of space. Finally, Sushi eatery BondSt is working to nab a spot inside the Dream Downtown.

The confluence of potential hot spots concerned Community Board 4, but the clubs made a promise not to entertain lines of people waiting to get in.

“The policy at the restaurant is if you have a reservation, yes, if you don’t, move along,” said Curt Huegel, the owner of No. 8. [DNAinfo]
