Frank Sinatra and 530 East 72nd Street

A Manhattan penthouse built for Frank Sinatra is set to hit the market next week for $7.7 million, according to the New York Post. Sinatra purchased the 3,000-square-foot duplex unit, at 530 East 72nd Street, in 1961 and helped design it during construction. The co-op apartment has four bedrooms, six bathrooms and a glass staircase connecting its 22nd floor square-footage with that on the 23rd floor. It also has 2,000 square feet of wraparound terraces.

“The apartment has been modernized, but it is still set up for someone with that Rat Pack mentality,’’ said Rubicon Property founder Jason Haber, who will list the unit. “It is really for someone who wants to entertain, to have people over, to have dinner parties.”

Sinatra, who the Post said loved to throw champagne glasses to the FDR Drive from the outdoor space, sold the apartment in 1972 to celebrity doctor Denton Cox. He, in turn, sold it to Penny Hart, the founder of insurance company TSC Direct, for $4.5 million in 2008. [Post]
