Will Helen Gurley Brown’s Beresford quaduplex hit the market?

Helen Gurley Brown, the former editor of Cosmopolitan Magazine who died yesterday at the age of 90, owned a four-floor penthouse inside one of the Southwest towers at the Beresford and its fate is unknown, the New York Observer reported. Her husband, David Brown, died in 2010, her sister is also deceased and the Browns did not have any children.

Brown’s apartment could come on the market, the Observer said. If it hit the block, the unit would be the first quadruplex at the Beresford to come online since July 2004. The one that hit the market in 2004 sold for $15.3 million, but the Observer said there are better points for comparison. For example, Bob Weinstein’s non-tower Beresford penthouse asked $29.5 million.

Brown’s home features a terrace that overlooks Central Park, as well as bold interior design, such as bubblegum pink shag carpeting and zebra-print wallpaper.

“I’m slightly prejudiced,” Brown told Vanity Fair, “but I think it’s the best apartment in New York.” [NYO] — Zachary Kussin
