Woman sues LES co-op after parking spot revoked

A 93-year-old woman is suing her Lower East Side apartment building, alleging that building management revoked the parking spot she has had for more than 30 years, the New York Post reported.

Virginia Rubino parked her sea-foam green 1967 Cadillac convertible in Seward Park Housing Corp.’s garage’s spot no. 1 — until management told her son recently that her spot had been revoked. The wait time for another spot in the garage is ten years.

Management told Rubino and her son that the reason for the change was that her insurance and registration were expired and that the car was inoperable. Rubino countered with proof of insurance and registration, and pointed out that the classic car was actually in such good shape that it was used in the filming of “Men in Black 3” last year.

The co-op’s lawyer told the Post management there would consider “additional facts,” Rubino had recently brought to light, but said the building had acted properly. Rubino is seeking the return of the spot and additional damages, the Post said. [Post]
