Taconic Investment Partners and Thor Equities announced today the start of construction of a 55,000-square-foot office and retail property at 837 Washington Street. Occupancy is expected for the fall of 2013.
The existing two-story, 13,125-square-foot structure will be restored and integrated into the new development with the addition of four stories on top of it.
Three levels of retail will total 28,000 square feet with a corner presence on Washington and 13th streets, not far from the High Line and the Standard Hotel. The office section of the building will measure 27,000 square feet. There will also be exterior terraces: 500 square feet on the second floor, 3,500 square feet on the floor above and 3,000 square feet on the rooftop.
Morris Adjmi is the architect on record. The building has been designed for LEED Gold certification.
As previously reported, Thor paid $55 million for a 75-percent stake in the development. The Department of Buildings signed off on the zoning approvals for the development this summer. — Zachary Kussin
