UWS co-op board sues owner over alleged bedbugs

It seems money can’t buy peace of mind — at least not in New York City. A pricey Upper West Side penthouse has allegedly fallen victim to a “mega infestation” of bedbugs, the New York Post reported. The board at 39 West 67th Street, at Columbus Avenue, has filed suit against Judith Newman, the owner of a 15th floor penthouse unit and her tenant, Therese Hohmann, in order to gain access to the affected bedroom, which the complaint says is home to between 5,000 and 10,000 bedbugs.

The board wants access so it can prevent the troublesome critters from spreading to the rest of the 28-unit building, the Post said.

The 91-year-old tenant has lived in the building since 1965, according to Newman.

“It hasn’t spread beyond her room. They did a barrier treatment, so it’s been contained,” Newman told the Post. “I’m in the middle of all this, it’s a nightmare.” [NYP] –Guelda Voien
