Manhattan luxury market has biggest week of year

135 East 79th Street and 320 West 12th Street

Last week was the biggest week of the year for the Manhattan luxury sales market, a new report shows.

Deals for 28 properties asking $4 million and above and totaling $230.3 million wrapped up in the week of Feb. 18, according to the weekly numbers provided by Olshan Realty.

The Upper East Side had more than half of the sales, including four at 135 East 79th Street, the report said. Seventy-three percent of the apartments in the 30-unit condo, which opened in October, are in contract.

The largest contract was for a second-floor unit in the Abingdon, at 320 West 12th Street. The asking price was $25 million. Among the features of the 9,615-square-foot triplex: a 35-foot living room, a 24-foot formal dining room, a library and two fireplaces.

A six-story townhouse at 45 East 65th Street took second place; the asking price had been reduced from $29 million to $24.5 million. The 28-foot-wide home has 13,056 square feet and features an elevator, a grand staircase and 12 fireplaces. Despite the price, the building needs a complete renovation. –Christopher Cameron

    Naturally the Upper East would have the majority of the sales. Regardless of the area, a good deal of these buildings are just… completely amazing. I was glancing at listings here: http://newconstructionmanhattan.com/neighborhoods/upper-east-side. A lot of the designs are very innovative and the amenities are top-notch.
