Matthew Modine sells Chelsea home for $2M

Listing included promotional video starring the actor

It appears that a recent star performance by actor Matthew Modine helped sell his Chelsea apartment. The actor sold his 1,668-square-foot condominium at 420 West 25th Street for $2.1 million, city records filed today show, and its listing came with an added bonus: A promotional video of the unit that featured the “Full Metal Jacket” star himself.

In the video, Modine detailed the features of his Loft 25 home, such as its 17-plus-foot ceilings and private outdoor space, as The Real Deal reported when the home hit the market for $2.3 million last September. At the end, Modine comes on camera to tell Halstead Property’s Mark Friedman, the listing agent, that he’s scooting off to Madison Square Garden to “watch the New York Knickerbockers.”

Curbed first spotted the sale.

Before appearing in the Halstead-produced video, Modine had roles in “The Dark Knight Rises” and other films.

The web video won a Halstead award for the most-watched video, which he said got over 50,000 hits, Friedman told The Real Deal.

“I would say it probably had an impact,” he said. He later wrote in an email that “Both Matthew and [wife] Cari are great people and were wonderful to work with in both buying and selling this property.”

The sale of the one-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom home entered contract in late January and transferred on April 1, according to the deed.
