Andrew Zobler’s Sydell Group has bought a large land parcel in Williamsburg, and intends to build a Freehand hotel at the site, the New York Post reported.

In December, Zobler – who was part of the team behind the Ace Hotel and helped finance the NoMad hotel — paid the Rosenwach Group $10 million for the three parcels along Wythe Avenue between North 9th and 10th streets. Land records seen by the Post show 200 feet of frontage on Wythe Avenue and 144 feet on each of the streets.

Sources told the Post that Zobler will develop a hotel that reflects the energy of an upscale youth hostel at the site, which is two blocks from the Brooklyn Bowl and across the street From Two Trees Management’s Wythe Hotel. Sydell’s Freehand Miami, built on the same philosophy, has attracted a lot of buzz.
