Retail activity is abuzz in the north Bronx with construction kicking off at a 133,000-square-foot mall and the impending arrival of a Burlington Coat Factory location, DNAinfo reported.

Construction began yesterday on Equity One’s Broadway Plaza shopping center in Kingsbridge. The developers are slated to spend roughly $54 million on the project, which is estimated to open next fall. The development will feature two stories of retail above 130 parking spaces at street level.

Equity One declined to disclose to DNAinfo the brands it is in talks with to take space, though its website and leasing literature label T.J. Maxx and Sports Authority as tenants.

“We’re definitely looking for a food market, a sports tenant and retail,” a spokesperson told DNAinfo.

Burlington Coat Factory, which will arrive this fall, will take 70,000 square feet in A Building Located On Webster Avenue by Fordham Road. The site is currently home to a children’s department store. This store will mark the chain’s second location in the Bronx and its eighth in New York City.

Nearby, another shopping center is in the works, as previously reported. This 162,000-square-foot site is a joint venture between Metropolitan Realty Associates and Angelo Gordon & Co. [DNAinfo]Zachary Kussin
