Tenant accuses Chetrit of trying to force her out of rent-controlled Chelsea home

A tenant living in a rent-controlled apartment in a building connected to Joseph Chetrit’s Hotel Chelsea is accusing the developer of neglecting to make essential repairs so that she’ll move, DNAinfo reported.

Tina Rossner lives in the eight-unit building at 229 West 22nd Street, a brownstone known as the “Townhouse” that was part of Chetrit’s 2011 deal to buy the landmarked hotel. Rossner pays $331.81 a month for her 500-square-foot apartment.

In an interview with DNAinfo, Rossner accused Chetrit of turning her longtime home into a “trash pit.” She is now gathering evidence for possible legal action, she added.

The Chetrit Group did not respond to DNAinfo’s requests for comment.

In several visits to the property , city housing officials found 22 violations. Most of these violations were in Rossner’s apartment, housing records seen by DNAinfo show, including citations for mold, broken heating, ceiling collapses and vermin.

Tenants of Hotel Chelsea have faced similar issues, as The Real Deal reported, and have taken Chetrit to court. [DNAinfo] – Hiten Samtani
