Apthorp, 390 West End Avenue
A major structural change like adding a new top level to an existing New York City building is fraught with complications — particularly when said building is one of the most historic properties on the Upper West Side. But that hasn’t stopped developers from making plans to add four luxury penthouse apartments to the roof of the landmarked Apthorp building at 390 West End Avenue. Local officials and residents raised objections over the prospect of disruption, as well as concerns over the structural and architectural integrity of the 105-year-old building. Area Property Partners currently controls the Apthrop, which was originally developed by Maurice Mann and Africa Israel USA.
