Making money really is art: Warhol haunt trades for $5.5M

Proving yet again that being good in business is the most fascinating kind of art — as Andy Warhol once quipped — an Upper East Side townhouse once belonging to the king of Pop Art has sold for $5.5 million.

The most recent owners of the four-bedroom home at 1342 Lexington Avenue owned the home for a mere two years, after buying it for $3.5 million in 2011.

“The value of a home with such history is just unbeatable,” Liz Chiang, the Halstead Property broker who represented the unnamed buyer, told the New York Daily News. Glenn Minnick and Jeannette Bernstein of Brown Harris Stevens represented the seller.

Warhol lived in the home from 1950 to 1974, during which time he turned out his famous Marilyn Monroe and Mao Zedong silkscreens. The home was designed by Henry Hardenberg, Also Behind The Plaza Hotel and the Dakota co-ops. [NYDN] — Julie Strickland
