Chelsea Clinton and husband Marc Mezvinksy got quite a deal last March when they purchased their new apartment in the Whitman condominium building on Madison Square Park. Although it appeared at the time like the couple paid the full list price of $10.5 million, new city records show that they actually paid only $9.25 million, a $1.2 million discount.

Recently, two other nearly identical 5,000-square-foot apartments sold in the building for $10 million each – making Clinton and Mezvinksy’s purchase price closer to a $750,000 discount. One went to NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon and the other went to a hedge fund shark and his model wife, according to the New York Post. All three apartments went into to contract within two months of each other.

So what’s with Clinton’s hefty discount? It turns out the former president’s daughter got an early bird special:

“Marc and Chelsea agreed to buy the apartment last year. As they were the first to do so in the building, they received a discount, as is not uncommon in New York,” a spokesperson for the buildig told the Post. [NYP]Christopher Cameron
