LGBT non-profit takes 10,500 sf in Chelsea

The non-profit Callen-Lorde, an organization that provides health care to New York’s LGBT communities, has signed an 11-year lease for 10,500 square feet at the Hakim Organization’s building at 230 West 17th Street. Asking rent for the space was $46 per square foot.

Callen-Lorde plans to build a new state-of-the-art primary care practice at its new space near its 356 West 18th Street headquarters, according to David Lebenstein, senior managing director of Cassidy Turley’s Not-For-Profit Practice Group.

Lebenstein, who represented the tenant, called the deal “a tough feat in this tight Chelsea office market.”

The eight-story, 53,168-square-foot structure, built in 1912, was once the location of Barney’s Warehouse, but today the building caters to medical tenants. Current tenants include St Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center West Village Outpatient Pharmacy, Cmp Builders and Manhattan Imaging Association, according to the Commercial Observer.
