The West Village is the most in-demand Manhattan neighborhood of the last week, according to Zumper, an apartment listings website. The other most popular spots, in order, are the Upper East Side, which led the charge for the previous five weeks, Hell’s Kitchen, Chelsea and the Upper West Side.
“The West Village, always a top 10 neighborhood, was pushed down from the top three because a large volume of leads over the summer and early fall were from younger professionals moving to New York City with incomes in the $75,000 to $100,000 range who found better deals in other neighborhoods,” Zumper chief operating officer Taylor Glass-Moore told The Real Deal.
“Most of those renters have leased apartments by now, so it’s likely we’ll see pricier neighborhoods climb the charts.”
Renters asked brokers about two-bedroom apartments more than any other apartment type — representing 47 percent of total inquiries, the data from Zumper show. The median rent query for two-bedroom apartments in Manhattan overall was $4,100 per month.
One-bedrooms had 25 percent of the total market share, and a median inquiry of $2,500, while studios had 21 percent of the market and a median query of $1,650. Three-bedrooms had the smallest chunk with 7 percent of the market and a median query of $3,973. – Julie Strickland
