Two new residential buildings, developed by Grand Street Development, are slated to rise in Williamsburg, both designed by Gene Kaufman.

The first Kaufman-designed structure, at 774 Grand Street, is to rise eight stories and contain 62 rental units, a fitness center, three common roof spaces and onsite parking. Slated to open at the beginning of 2016, 20 percent of the units will be affordable housing.

“We support the idea that the city is best served by a diverse group of people,” Grand Street Development’s Dean Marchi told Bedford + Bowery. He did not comment on the price range for the building’s market-rate units.

On the other side of the street, at 213 Maujer Street, a second building with six one-bedrooms and a studio apartment is also slated to rise. The property, also to be designed by Kaufman, will connect with the Grand Street property and share its amenities.

Construction on the two buildings is to start at the same time, though a date was not specified.

Kaufman was also tapped to design a seven-story mixed-use building at 56 North Street in Williamsburg in September. [Bedford + Bowery]Julie Strickland
