Key pol lends Knightsbridge Army project vote of approval

City Council member Fernando Cabrera, who in the past expressed concerns about the planned Kingsbridge Armory redevelopment, added his “yes” vote to the Bronx Borough Board’s unanimous approval of the armory’s lease agreement.

The key nod came after developer KNIC Partners told Cabrera that his concerns about traffic, an uptick in asthma due to the surge of cars, and the redevelopment’s impact on local businesses had been addressed.

Community Board 7 gave the project its vote of approval in September. Now, only a rubber stamp by the full City Council stands in the ice rink’s way. If all goes according to plan, the new facility will be up and running by 2017. [NYDN]Julie Strickland
