Cary Tamarkin buys Village loft for $3.8M

Architect-turned-developer Cary Tamarkin likely has a lot on his plate with sales underway at his latest project, a mixed-use residential development at 508 West 24th Street. Still, it appears he’s had enough time to do some apartment shopping of his own.

Tamarkin has acquired a three-bedroom loft at a Greenwich Village co-op at 54 East 11th Street, according to public records filed with the city yesterday. He bought the unit from Northstar Financial Services founder Nik Malvania and his wife, Janice, records show.

The property had been listed by Erin Boisson Aries and Nic Bottero of residential brokerage Brown Harris Stevens. Neither was immediately available for comment. Tamarkin paid $3.79 million for the unit, just short of the $3.8 million asking price.

The seventh-floor loft features 11.5-foot ceilings and 14 oversized windows, according to the listing. The apartment has a private keyed elevator and a video intercom system. The industrial loft building has just 11 units and was built in 1902.

Tamarkin has previously stated his penchant for industrial architecture, saying that he feels passionately about steel window frames and casement windows.

“I like things that are going to be interesting ruins eventually,” he told TRD in June.

Neither Tamarkin nor Malvania could immediately be reached.

    I bet he’s going to spend a load more renovating it to his liking. After all, his firm is doing pretty well (but no year-end bonuses for any employee for a second year in a row)!
