After a six-month delay, Forest City Ratner will begin stacking its fully-constructed modular units to form the 32-story Atlantic Yards building known as B2 next week.

The developer is planning to finish construction on the pre-fab apartment building, to be the world’s tallest modular structure, by December 2014. Forest City Ratner reps also told Brownstoner that the units will be an estimated 10 percent cheaper than typical residential construction and that the tower will hold a 50-50 mix of market-rate and affordable housing, 20 percent of which will be low-income housing.

Rents in the tower range from $400 to $4,400 per month, as previously reported.

Most parts of the apartment were constructed and installed at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, down to the electrical wiring, plumping, hardwood floors, appliances and towel bars. Another modular factory constructed the hallways and stairwells, and contractors and electricians will connect the building’s utilities after stacking. [Brownstoner]Julie Strickland
