When the owners of a prime Park Avenue abode decided it was time to upgrade, they were in for a rude awakening. The couple quickly discovered that there were absolutely no full-floor prewar apartments available on the Upper East Side that were larger than their current home.
Not to be discouraged, the couple compromised on the neighborhood and purchased a 9,000-square-foot postwar penthouse – the couple preferred to leave the address unmentioned. But they also wanted to bring the luxury and charm of their previous address to their new condo, and that is where acclaimed New York City architect and designer David Rockwell of the Rockwell Group comes in.
After dinning one evening at the since-shuttered restaurant Adour in the St. Regis hotel, the couple noted how the landmarked room had been beautifully modernized without altering the original elements, according to Architecture Digest. After discovering that Rockwell was the restaurant’s designer the couple asked for his services at their new home.
