CB orders Boerum Hill treatment center to be more “attractive”

 After facing local opposition, a drug treatment center in Boerum Hill has been granted permission to Move Into Its New Atlantic Avenue location by Brooklyn’s Community Board 2, but with one condition: its front has to be “attractive.”

The New Directions alcohol and chemical abuse treatment center can move into 500 Atlantic Avenue as long as the “storefront appearance is in line with the retail nature of the street,” the board said Wednesday night, according to DNAinfo.

The stipulation was added after some concerned board members noted the unattractive nature of New Directions’ current facility at 202 Flatbush Avenue.

“We have a picture of what their current facility looks like and there are no windows,” An Atlantic Avenue BID board member said. “[They also have] an extremely large sign and we’d like them to work with the business community to redo the façade.”
