Ace Hotel on Bowery to include 178 rooms, eatery

Plans for the Salvation Army shelter and community center-turned-hotel at 225 Bowery are beginning to emerge.

The future Ace Hotel will have 178 rooms, and the architect is Nataliya Donskoy, according to city Department of Buildings documents. The renovations on the 57,793-square-foot, 10-story space are estimated total cost is $5 million, and the site will include a food spot on the first floor, the records show.

The Omnia Group, also the developing team on a residential conversion at 154 East 23rd Street in Gramercy Park, is developing the hotel. BuzzBuzzHome first spotted the DOB records, filed on Dec. 13.

The hotel, described as a “distilled service” venture — a pricey hotel with a “faux-hostel vibe” — is a departure from the original plan to convert the space into apartments. [BuzzBuzzHome]Julie Strickland

Are these going to be similar to the Japanese Pod Hotels where you can easily slide your cadaver in?

Wait, are you effing kidding me? They’re getting rid of the Salvation Army there? I donate clothes and goods to that location frequently (as recently as yesterday) and have always enjoyed my interactions with the kindly folks working there.

Any word on what will happen to the community center and Salvation Army? Are they relocating? Where to?

I can’t believe they are going to be replaced by yet more BS trendification! This really makes me sick.
