The long-vacated Centurian building at 1182 Broadway at West 28th Street has been empty since the city Department of Buildings nabbed the spot for an illegal loft conversion in 2010. But now it appears to be on the rebound.

A teaser site for the building promises “elegantly reimagined residences” that would open this winter, with rents ranging from $5,000 to $12,000 a month. The unit mix is reportedly going to be lofts, two-bedrooms and two-bedroom duplexes.

The site is owned Mocal Enterprises, which also held the property when the DOB’s vacate order came down, Curbed reported. At the time, the building apparently lacked safety features, including fire sprinklers, secondary exits and adequate stairwells.

Rumors have long swirled that the 17-story building might be converted to condominiums. [Curbed]Julie Strickland
