Belgian artist’s Fort Greene compound sells for $7.5M

Belgian artist Marc Lambrechts bid farewell to his non-landmarked, block-through Fort Greene assemblage for $7.5 million.

The three contiguous lots at 164 South Oxford Street, near South Portland Avenue, can be collectively developed into 38,000 buildable square feet, the New York Observer reported. The compound contains an 1865 mini-mansion, a carriage house, four garages and three backyards. Lambrechts converted the carriage house’s two one-bedrooms to studio space and rented out the apartments.

Vicki Negron and Paul Murphy of the Corcoran Group had the listing for the site, which hit the market for $9 million in May, as previously reported. Air rights are expected to bring the total sale to $8 million.

“I was right next door, so the whole thing was very open,” Lambrechts told the Observer. “It was kind of like a communal living situation, with kids always running from here to there. It was very nice. But I just got tired of taking care of it.” [NYO] — Mark Maurer
