Community Board 7 on the Upper West Side has approved a zoning change that will prevent development out of character with the area.
The current zoning change, if approved by the New York City Department of City Planning, would require developers to build in line with existing structures in areas between 97th and 110th streets, according to DNAinfo.
The new rules could eventually affect a redevelopment project by nursing home Jewish Home Lifecare. The group wants to build a $250,000 facility on land they swapped with developer Joseph Chetrit in 2011. The plot, on 97th Street at Amsterdam Avenue, was obtained in exchange for a site on West 106th Street and $35 million, as The Real Deal reported.
Representatives for Chetrit said the developer supported the zoning changes and that Chetrit’s plans to build two 11-story residential buildings along West 106th Street and one 7-story building along West 105th Street, all between Amsterdam and Columbus avenues, were not affected by the proposed changes.
