Mystery seller wants $27.5M for “mansion in the sky”

An undisclosed owner of a “high-floor unit” in an Extell tower on the Upper West Side is asking $27.5 million, or $3,254 per square foot, according to StreetEasy.

Real estate super-duo Fredrik Eklund and John Gomes at Douglas Elliman have the listing for a seven-bedroom, 7.5-bathroom luxury condo at 535 West End Avenue. The “mansion in the sky,” per the listing, is situated between 84th and 85th streets.

Extell Development finished building the spread in 2010, an original vision of embattled former architect Lucien Lagrange. The apartment was redesigned by critically acclaimed designer Katherine Newman and features white oak flooring, hand-painted walls and custom hardware. The master bathrooms are especially luxe, featuring an oversized soaking tub for her and a steam shower for him, with TVs built in to both, according to the listing.

“It’s a beautiful building to begin with, but everything has been changed,” Eklund told The Real Deal. “They worked with a lighting specialist, which made the apartment really gorgeous.”

Although the unit number is not identified, the space is one of four 8,451-square-foot apartments in the building that are owned by entities in unrelated deeds. Two are subsidiary limited liability companies of investment firms Platinum Partners and Argent Ventures, and the other two are LLCs of registered agent service companies — National Registered Agents, Inc., and Corporation Service Company.

The common charges for the condo are $9,103, according to the listing. Residents of this doorman building get access to a swimming pool, community recreation facilities, a gym and garage parking. Extell’s President Gary Barnett once considered living in the building himself.

“The residence is one of a kind in New York City,” Barnett had told The Real Deal previously.
