Wendi Deng, the ex-wife of billionaire publishing mogul Rupert Murdoch, has taken title to the couple’s Former Penthouse On Fifth Avenue following their 2013 divorce, according to public records filed with the city today.
A real estate property tax transfer filed on Wednesday shows the Newscorp. boss transferring his interest in the trophy pad at 834 Fifth Avenue, between 64th and 65th streets, to Deng for $34 million. The duo previously owned the apartment jointly.
Deng, who famously punched a protester who threw a pie in Murdoch’s face during an inquiry into Newscorp’s UK phone-hacking scandal, lives at the property with the former couple’s two daughters, according to previous reports.
The couple purchased the apartment for $44 million from the estate of Laurance S. Rockefeller, son of John D. Rockefeller, in 2005. It was a record price for a New York City apartment at the time.
The apartment building has a notoriously fussy co-op board, which requires buyers to pay all cash for their apartments. Previous residents of the Rosario Candela-designed property include Elizabeth Arden and Charles Schwab.
The triplex apartment is situated on the14th through 16th floors of the building and has 4,000 square feet of terraces spread over the three floors, according to previous reports. The Murdochs completed a massive renovation of the property in 2007.
A spokesperson for Murdoch could not immediately be reached.
