Vote on Methodist Hospital expansion delayed
Decision on zoning variance requires more information, BSA said
The vote on whether to grant a zoning variance, which would allow for the expansion of New York Methodist Hospital in Park Slope has been postponed to gather more details regarding the facility’s proposed new outpatient center.
The decision from the Board of Standards and Appeals comes after the hospital has already submitted more than 20 changes to the original plan for 506 Sixth Street, in Park Slope, based on community input over the last six months.
Due to local concern over the increase in traffic the Center for Community Health would likely impose on the nabe, BSA commissioners are asking the hospital to explain more thoroughly why they need the building, according to DNAinfo. They also asked Methodist to consider chopping a few floors off the original eight-story design to better fit in with the low-rise neighborhood.
The new vote is scheduled for April 8. [DNAinfo] –– Angela Hunt
