As if falling icicles and chilly buildings weren’t enough, New Yorkers are also bumping along on pothole-plagued roads this winter.
The city’s Department of Transportation has already repaired 106,570 potholes this unusually snowy season, a spokeswoman for the agency told DNAinfo. Manhattan alone was home to 14,787 such repairs, and the city’s 311 complaint line has fielded 6,776 calls about the pocked roads.
“It’s really dangerous,” Jason Haber, Warburg Realty broker, told DNAinfo. “The streets of Manhattan look like craters on the moon.”
Still, the bumpy roads are nothing compared to what happened in the 2010-2011 winter season, which dumped 19 inches of snow on the city. The DOT repaired 397,560 potholes that year, according to the agency’s data. [DNAinfo] — Julie Strickland
