Updated at 3:10 p.m: Developer Greenpoint Landing Associates, an affiliate of the Manhattan-based Park Tower Group, has filed building permits for two affordable residential apartments in Brooklyn.

The two affordable buildings, at 21 Commercial Street and 33 Eagle Street, are being developed in a  joint venture with L&M as part of the gigantic waterfront development Greenpoint Landing. They are the first in a series of buildings Park Tower plans to build there.

The Commercial Street building has 93 units in total, while Eagle Street has 98. Both are being designed by Gary Handel of Handel Architects.

The Greenpoint waterfront will soon be home to a spate of new developments, which will include a total 1,400 affordable units and over 4 acres of open space. The School Construction Authority will also build a pre-K through 8 640-seat public school at Franklin and DuPont streets, as The Real Deal previously reported. — Katherine Clarke

    Exciting.

If the respective administrations of NYC allow these types of developments they should be allowed only with improvements to current and adding additional transit options, particularly subway. Housing is continually being built and the population is expanding but no thought is given to adding subway and rail service in the boroughs especially. Manhattan finally has a Second Ave line and expanded 7 coming in the future. Raise our fares if you must but please plan for the future movement of the population. For this project in Greenpoint is there a new G subway station being installed on Commercial Street. An idea…
