Urban Recovery House, a pricey drug treatment facility planned for Red Hook, was approved by Community Board 6 Wednesday night.

The board voted 24 to 9 in favor of the rehabilitation center, which will cost as much as $50,000 for a 28-day stay. The facility, which opponents argued would inundate the neighborhood with drug addicts and reverse past efforts to clean up the area, would open in 2016 and offer treatment options such as yoga, acupuncture and music therapy.

“There is no other high-end rehab center on the East Coast,” board member Suzanne Turet told the paper. “I think it’s the sort of mixed-use thing we want.”

The board stipulated that the center must create a community advisory group before opening, according to the paper.

Urban Recovery House would located the new facility on Richards and Van Dyke streets, and owners Johan Sorensen and Michael Mosberg hope to open the facility in 2016. The plans call for 25 to 30 beds, and would be the Brooklyn-based company’s first venture. [Brooklyn Paper]Julie Strickland
