A New York office of Jones Lang LaSalle is planning to grow its broker roster by nearly 50 percent.

In the next 18 months, the commercial brokerage will add five people to the current 11-broker team at its lower Manhattan office at 140 Broadway. The move comes as the firm pushes to increase its market share in Lower Manhattan.

“The business warrants it,” he told the New York Observer. “There are advantages of having local expertise, local familiarity. It’s a 100 million-square-foot market. There’s enough business here.” Wheeler was brought on by the firm in 2009 and started leading the office in 2012.

Recently the firm has been tapped to handle the sale of the office tower at 55 Broadway, which owner Broad Street Development put on the market this month for $82 million. [NYO]Angela Hunt
