HAP’s blue and pink balconies to be put to a public vote
Colorblind CEO willing to let residents weigh in on pastel scheme of East Harlem building
East Harlem residents who are less than bowled over by a plan to line a Pleasant Avenue building with pink and blue balconies are to weigh in on the developer’s final color scheme.
The candy-colored plans for HAP Investment Developer’s 15,255-square-foot property at 329 Pleasant Avenue, between 117th and 118th streets, surfaced last month and quickly drew an angry reaction from area residents. The owner, in response, has agreed to set up a poll to determine the structure’s ultimate palette.
“We’re not going to change the design, but we will change the color,” Eran Polack, HAP Investment’s chief executive, told the New York Daily News. “Let’s have a poll. Let’s see what people like.”
The date of the poll’s release has not yet been released, but Polack, who told the Daily News that he is colorblind, said flyers will be circulated in the area and on the developer’s Facebook page in the next few days.
Offerings in the 20-unit rental building will start at $1,750 for a studio and a two-bedroom will run $3,000, Polack told the paper. [NYDN] — Julie Strickland
