“Lion King” composer Hans Zimmer buys Manhattan pad for $1.7M

Unit in Gramercy Park is in oldest co-op in the city

Hollywood composer Hans Zimmer, the musician behind the scores of hit movies such as “The Lion King” and “Gladiator,” has snapped up a two-bedroom apartment at 34 Gramercy Park, the first co-op ever established in Manhattan.

The German-born composer and his wife Suzanne paid $1.68 million for the apartment, which was listed by Jill Krause of Halstead Property, according to public records filed with the city today.

The seller was the Long Island City-based estate of Blanche Green.

A spokesperson for Zimmer confirmed the deal, while Krause was not immediately available for comment.

The property, which overlooks Gramercy Park, comes with private keyed access to the park. The red brick and terracotta building used to be home to one of the last hydraulic elevators in operation in New York City until the mid 1990’s, when it was converted to electric, according to the listing.

Zimmer, his wife and four children spend most of their time at his home in Santa Monica, in Los Angeles County, according to previous reports.

Zimmer is not the only celeb to have bought a pied a terre in the building. Late night television host Jimmy Fallon also lives there, it’s been reported.
