Larry Gluck’s Stellar Management, the Upper West Side landlord that caught heat over blocking rent-stabilized tenants from a property’s newly-installed pool, is now under fire for allegedly mistreating workers at the same building.

The landlord is accused of looking to boot union workers and replace them with cheaper employees at its Windermere West End Property, located at 666 West End Avenue between West 92nd and 93rd streets. Other worker complaints include allegedly unnecessary write-ups, special treatment for workers with management connections and overtime pay delays.

“When Stellar Management took over, they started harassing workers,” Norberto Lucio, who worked as a porter at the Windermere before being fired in 2012, told the New York Daily News. “They started calling us up in the office and telling us if we can’t get the job done they would fire us.” Lucio filed formal complaints with both his union and the National Labor Relations Board after being fired for disobeying orders, he told the paper.

After looking into his claims, the board found there was insufficient evidence of harassment, Lucio told the Daily News. Since then, several other complaints regarding worker treatment have been fired with the Service Employees International Union Local 32BJ. Stellar Management declined to comment on the charges, which include allegations that new building surveillance cameras are being used to keep an eye on employees.

The Upper West Side building rankled residents earlier this month when it rented out a newly installed pool to a business that provides swim lessons to kids. The move was seen as an affront to rent-regulated tenants banned from using the facility, as previously reported. [NYDN]Julie Strickland

Larry is not made of sugar and won’t melt because a porter is claiming he is owed twenty bucks!
