Queens fraudster sees home taken by squatters

In a twist of sweet irony, a Queens mortgage scammer, convicted of defrauding distressed homeowners, is seeing his own home overrun with squatters.

Since Isaak Khafizov was sentenced to nine years in prison for defrauding borrowers, his two-story Howard Beach home – worth approximately $562,000 — on 90th Street has repeatedly been stormed by transients, according to the New York Post.

“Who are they, and where did they come from?” one neighbor fumed to the Post. The resident added that one squatter laughed when police cuffed him last week. “When the cops came, he had no shame.”

And while locals may not be fans of the squatters, many feel that Khafizov is getting what he deserves.

“He messed with a bunch of people’s lives,” said Vicki Tepper, a victim of Khafizov scheme, in which he promised to modify her mortgage and lower her monthly payments, but instead pocketed the cash. “He took our money, and he tricked us into believing things that weren’t true.” [NYP] – Christopher Cameron
