Rechler Equity Partners broke ground today on the Hampton Business District at Gabreski, a commercial, medical and technology development site in Westhampton Beach.

The project at 220 Roger’s Way is to include a 60,000-square-foot industrial building to be followed by eight additional structures totaling 440,000 square feet, according to a release from the developer.

“The genesis for the Hampton Business District dates back to the 1970s, when Suffolk County and the town of Southampton recognized the economic potential of developing non-aviation portions of Gabreski Airport,” Steven Ballone, Suffolk County executive, said in the release. “With today’s groundbreaking, we see that collaborative vision take a major step closer to becoming a reality.”

Suffolk County tapped Rechler to lead development of the 50-acre site in 2009, which will offer spaces ranging from 1,333 square feet up to 100,000 square feet upon completion. — Julie Strickland
